Do Not Come Between the Dragon and His Wrath

— (The Tragedy of King Lear, I. 1) ShakespeareYes, I am angry and I am sad, and I snarl and sigh. I am focused on fighting for my rights, and want to win in court and in all future public opinion polls and votes. Yet, I know that now is not the time to talk, plot, plan, or think rationally.    Many of my friends, gay and straight, are wildly furious.  It's the Mormons. It's Equality California's horrible campaign tactics. It's the black churches.  It's the Pope. I was yelled at by a friend for a good long time Friday when I [...]

They Won All the Battles But We Had All the Good Songs

The line from Tom Lehrer song about the war against Franco, " They Won All the Battles But We Had All the Good Songs," came to mind today as I was sent the URL of another video of the vigil posted online. I guess that means I have some sense of humor left. The link is to the online version of KPIX's story which includes fleeting comments by redozdachs and me. And, while I'm thinking about it, here's the minister's statement about the election. November 5, 2008On November 4 we staked our claim as a people of liberal faith. We called, [...]

Our Try

By |2008-11-05T13:19:00-08:00November 5, 2008|Uncategorized|

Here's a picture of redozdachs and me being interviewed during Monday's marriage vigil. About 5 seconds of us aired, and he sounded great. But, damn. I'm in the anger stage of loss. The minister's Pastoral Message on the Election helps. It's eloquent, but I liked the one better he'd prepared if both Obama and No On 8 had won. As the electronic newsletter editor I received the winning statement yesterday to have on hand for publication. I wish I could have posted it. I feel good about the Ozdachs family's work on this try for marriage equality. We didn't succeed. [...]

Media Moments

redozdachs had a five-second statement on KPIX-5's report on Prop 8 last night, and I was in that clip for about 2 seconds myself.  Geoff appeared under a banner that identified him as a newlywed.  He also was in the front of the candlelight crowd scene on Channels 4, 7, and 11. Channel 2 ran a report, but didn't include us.  Fun personal notes. More interesting, in each of the TV  stories, the No on 8 voice came from a church – our church.  The countering Yes on 8 reports featured people yelling on street corners.  Kinda a nice reversal. Nice to see religious organizations [...]

Lots of Media…

By |2008-11-03T21:11:00-08:00November 3, 2008|Uncategorized|

Our church's effort to shout its religious opposition to the discriminatory Prop 8 drew camera crews from KTVU-2, KRON-4, KPIX-5, KGO-7, and from whatever NBC-11 is.  redozdachs and I were interviewed by everyone but Channel 2, I think.  We were representative church newly weds. We're TiVo'ing, hoping that there were more eloquent clip that will make the final cut.

7pm Monday – KTVU will broadcast LIVE from the Unitarian Universalist Church @ Franklin and Geary

And, apparently other media plan on being at the church's wedding vigil. The hook that got the press' attention was our plan to offer free weddings to any loving couple who show up with a license from anywhere in the state.  So, we're looking to see if there are more people who will come at 7 tonight (at Franklin/Geary) to add to the audience for the hour of the service vigil.Wanna come?  I don't know if this is a fire drill or a real fire, but it could be fun.  Details at www.uusf.org/#vigil .

A Message of Marriage

KCBS radio carried a report on our minister's wedding. Good story, and the reporter was friendly when he visited. But, did they need to include someone from "Yes" on 8 as part of the story? Would you invite a racist to comment on an interracial wedding? It was a lovely wedding! Rev. Greg Stewart and Stillman Stewart after being married by Assemblyman Mark Leno yesterday

Dear Grim Reaper

From today's Field Poll on Prop 8: All age subgroups under age 65 are opposing Prop. 8 by doubled-digit margins. However, voters 65 and over are strongly in favor of the initiative, backing Prop. 8 by a nearly two to one margin (62% Yes vs. 32% No).Most of the people over 65 who I know are militant lefties, firmly in the 32% camp.  Yet, I'm trying hard not to say something snarky about wanting to honor more old people on the Day of the Dead,... or going to the older enclaves of Orange County and giving a Klingon battle cry, [...]
