Prop A is being promoted as providing some of the money that MUNI desperately needs to recover from years of deferred maintenance and underfunding. It turns out that NO money in the bond issue is reserved for fixing MUNI. Instead, the ballot ordinance offers a laundry list of "transit and road improvements" but doesn't guarantee any money to any of them. (Check out the details in the official city ordinance). Everyone MUNI rider knows that the system needs improved maintenance and more money for its stations, tracks, and cars. Politicians pay lip service to giving MUNI the money it needs, but continually siphon off money voters thought was going to MUNI to pay for the projects of politically powerful constituents. This election the Mayor and Supervisors are again asking the voters to increase taxes to fund a bond measure to save MUNI. Except that much of the money in the bond does not go to MUNI. I’ve been watching with morbid fascination the pace of construction and renovation going on in our Noe Valley neighborhood. Building crews claim street lanes and parking spots. Debris boxes and temporary no parking signs are featured on every block. I know that a lot of the activity in our Noe Valley neighborhood is caused by its friendly, diverse feel to potential buyers. We have kids, LGBT couples, and LGBT couples with kids. We have straight families, too! And, we all get to enjoy high walkability scores and four MUNI lines within blocks of our home. The new sound system in the outdoor theater made Richard inaudible to me in Row AA, Seat 5, while people on both sides of me had no problem hearing. Just weird. Mozilla's press release announcing Brendan Eich as its CEO is gone Mozilla did good today in obtaining the resignation of its newly appointed CEO, Brendan Eich. Eich gave financial support to the anti-equality Prop 8 five years ago. His belief that is okay to deny equal legal rights to gay and lesbian people makes him someone I would not want to work for or give my money to as a business.
