Test Competition

I seem unable to resist the LJ addiction to polls/quizzes/tests.  Sure, I can stop taking them and posting the results.  I just don't want to stop.  I don't have a problem.  And, it's not just that I'm competitive and see that I beat  allanh's results. Ozdachs knows about demon rum

Tax and Finanical Planning Guide anyone?

One of my consulting engagements is to do the marketing for Geoff's CPA firm.  Sterck Kulik O'Neill accounting group is a 16-person company with the the intensity, warmth, care, quirkiness, and professionalism that illustrate to me why I like dealing with smaller businesses.  Their partners care about each marketing action because the incremental results -- even a single new client for their firm -- is noticeable.  After years of working for a large corporation where it was hard to find a budget where $100,000 made a significant impact, this more human and immediate scale of activity is simply more fun! The 250% Solution

I believe in patronizing local businesses, and we have a top quality, bright, veterinarian.  The Ozdachs pack loves her, and she seems genuinely happy to see the pack. But, she is aggressive in her pricing.  As in "ouch"!  I can rationalize paying for her excellent personal service, but she charges very high rates for medicine and for routine lab work which don't involve her at all. Since a couple of the Ozdachs have chronic low thyroid and take a pill every day, I went to PetCareRx to shop.  (I am not an affiliate or related to them, btw.)  There I found [...]

Richard III

You can't get creepier or more intentionally evil than James Newcomb's Richard III.  In the audience you sit in your comfortable chair, secure inside the upper-class white-bread theater, and still shiver when his dangerous glance comes your way.  The full review

The Philanderer

Oregon Shakespeare Festival is at its best when they do an old chestnut in a way that makes you wonder if they haven't rewritten it to make it more contemporary.  Their production of George Bernard Shaw's 1893 The Philanderer has me downloading the play from Project Gutenberg.  It's a pleasant task. By the Waters of Babylon

Ashland, Oregon Opening Weekend of the Oregon Shakespeare FestivalBy the Waters of Babylon by Robert Schenkkan This two-person play commissioned by OSF and written for its stars, Catherine Coulson and Armando Duran, has everything: flawless and inspired acting, cogent story, Deep Meaning, well-weaved metaphors, balance, nuance, comic relief,  dense but flowing dialog, character transformation, and, well, what did I leave out? Unfortunately, something is left out, but damn if I or others in the post-show crowd could put our fingers on it. The full review

Who’s Paranoid? Yahoo!’s Web Beacons

By |2005-02-18T07:42:00-08:00February 18, 2005|Uncategorized|

I received an email message this morning about Yahoo!'s Web Beacon which shares Yahoo! cookie information among Yahoo! sites and "certain partners".  Sounds like this lets Yahoo! et al share information about surfing and email opening patterns pretty widely.  All for my convenience, of course.  (See their privacy policy, too.) They allow a per browser opt-out.  If you opt out, just be careful NOT to click on the prominent "Cancel Opt-Out" button on the acknowledgment page.

He’s Not Stupid, He’s Dangerous

The President performed masterfully in another press conference this morning. His manner is distracted and slightly confused, and no one in the press corps has the heart to pick on him, the poor bumpkin who repeatedly misses the intent of their questions. They are disarmed by his sincere efforts to form syntactically correct sentences. He's trying so hard, and he remembers their names. He is a regular guy doing more than his natural abilities should allow. He's working hard. America needs this sincere overreaching in their President. Meanwhile, back on the issues, he does more than just misstate facts and [...]
