Scary Dachshunds

One of our friends sent this picture from a Williamsport, PA Halloween celebration.  Cute.  But our pack are longhair miniature dachshunds not smooths.  And, no one in our family does drag or turns 50-cent tricks.

Beta Testing

There's something disquieting in the thought that God/Mother Nature/The Cosmic Muffin is merely preparing for a formal release of a real hurricane season. I don't think that beta testing is really necessary — tropical storm formation and devastation seem to be perfected.

The Rhino Roams

I have been working on Theatre Rhinoceros's web site for about six weeks, and have a first edition ready for comments and suggestions. I had hoped to gradually improve the site they already had. Unfortunately, the free hosting service for non-profits had a server crash just as I was about to start work. Not only was the site down hard, the hosting angels had no backups. Yuk. Today's touches were to make a multi-level JavaScript navigation menu slide out from the left. It works for me. Let me know what you think.

Hurricanes, Ho!

By |2005-10-23T15:35:00-07:00October 23, 2005|hurricane, Uncategorized|

A true relation of my weather-worried grandmother, I am still scarfing up information on hurricanes.  I find the carnival-like, "Oh Boy, it's going to be a disaster!" commentary on television distasteful.  But, I also find myself surfing for details. Some favorite factiods: The list of hurricane names is posted at on a government NASA page. If the Internet can be believed, there are six lists of names, each used for a complete hurricane season. No "Q", "U", "X", "Y" and "Z" names appear. Terrapin Associates has a hurricane archive which allows you to search by storm name or location back into [...]

Welcome Tropical Storm Alpha

By |2005-10-22T09:33:00-07:00October 22, 2005|hurricane, Uncategorized|

If only my grandmother were still alive! She'd been in nervous-weather heaven this hurricane season. Although she lived just south of Boston in not exactly prime hurricane territory, she tracked every storm and was sure that each was going to make straight for Massachusetts and do us in. At the start of the hurricane season, she'd mail into WBZ to get weatherman Don Kent's special hurricane tracking map. She'd mark every tropical depression/storm/hurricane's position using the latitude and longitude thoughtfully broadcast by Mr. Kent and his cohorts. Sure, it might look like a storm was going to peter out over [...]

Ad Hominem Ad Nauseam

By |2005-10-21T16:35:00-07:00October 21, 2005|Uncategorized|

There’s something uncomfortably narrow and unsatisfying about the ads for several of the California ballot propositions. The media spots don’t bother to argue their case on the issue, but instead urge “No” votes on the initiatives mainly because who’s backing them. That’s a mistake, both philosophically and practically, I think. Lets take the pragmatic view first.  I understand that the Governor’s approval ratings are justifiably low right now.  Anything associated with Gov. Schwarzenegger is easily tarred as being the evil spawn of that education hating, promise-breaking, fireman-widow-starving, nurse-pinching -kicking doofus. Just say Schwarzenegger is “for” something, and it must be evil. If it’s a ballot proposition, voting [...]

Delay-ed Justice

By |2005-10-21T14:57:00-07:00October 21, 2005|Uncategorized|

You gotta admire a complete political sociopath who thinks only of spin, no matter the occasion.  Tom Delay's smiling Harris County Sheriff mug shot shows a broad smile suitable for a high school yearbook.  No political opponents can use this mug shot in the next campaign, eh? As MSNBC pointed out in their story, Delay is even proudly wearing the United State House of Representatives security pin on his lapel. Gawd.  The man just oozes sincerity.

Back to the Blog!

Thanks to, and with redozdachs, we had a great trip to Seattle.  The A/C fly-in gave me a few deluded moments where I felt adequate at C3A. The fly-in dinners, drinks, and conversations were comfortable.  And, our anniversary night Sunday at the Inn at the Market was perfect! But, enough about me.A week without reading blogs gave me over 150 entries to enjoy yesterday.  Interesting stuff -- especially the carefully written comments on Coming Out Day and personal insights. (Thanks for sharing.  Really.  Thank you!) If there was any revelation gained the perspective of my week of bloglessness it was [...]
